Happy Emancipation Day!!! Today (August 1st) is my special day where the citizens of Guyana celebrate the abolishment of slavery (African decent) in 1834. My day is shared with other Caribbean nations that were also former British Colonies. On my day, speeches by government officials are given in major cities, public exhibits on the history are created in numerous locations, festival in the National Park at Georgetown to represent African culture and customs, and many other mini parades and events are done throughout Guyana.
